Want to know how schools have engaged with the Engineering Educates Challenges so far, and the impact this has had on staff and pupils? Then read on…
The EngEd Toolkit area of the website is devoted to teacher CPD. ‘Create as an Engineer’ features pupil facing videos, accompanying teacher notes and a comprehensive set of  ‘Get Making Guides’ to support the technical aspects of teaching design & technology. From the different types of materials and joins to the different mechanisms used in high quality makes.
Pupils from years 3 to year 6 at Gillespie Primary School in Highbury, London, completed the Shop-a-bot challenge and Motion in the Ocean challenge as part of an 11 week, after-school robotics STEM club.
What the staff said:

“The teacher notes were very detailed, and the resources were easily accessible, which made the sessions straight forward to deliver. There were so many other useful resources included on the website, such as the Get Making Guides, Careers Chats and skills videos, these helped me to deliver the sessions confidently and provided the pupils with a rich experience.”
What the pupils said:

“I liked that we learned about robots in real-life.”

“My favourite part was using the Beebots to model delivery robots.”

“I liked designing my own ocean robot and learning about how to do exploded diagrams.”
The impact:

“The pupils enjoyed learning about the different applications of robotics. Their ideas about what a robot is and what they can be used for has greatly developed and improved. By having to work together to complete tasks, their collaborative skills were extended and as the activities provided challenge, pupils were encouraged to be more resilient. The pupils are now more curious to continue to learn about the different types and uses of robotics. Having gained a greater understanding of robotics, I feel far more confident now to teach pupils about robotics and the engineering design cycle. I will be sharing this resource with other science leads in The Science for Life partnership.”
