What does the new starter page include? This page can be used as part of your internal induction and will provide a basic understanding of the WSCP. Information includes:
- Who we are
- How we function as a partnership
- Local safeguarding arrangements
- Our most popular and accessed resources such as one-minute guides, briefings, toolkits and hot safeguarding topics
- How employees can access policies, procedures and frameworks
- Basic safeguarding training and access to the WSCP training offer
- Understanding the Partnership Intelligence Portal
- Understanding the role of the Integrated Front Door and MASH

As a part of the WSCP’s ongoing workstream around responses to child exploitation within the Wakefield District, and following completion of The Children's Society's Prevention Programme's Disruption Assessment, we are reviewing our multi-agency approach to disrupting child exploitation.

To enable us to better understand the current picture around disrupting child exploitation, we have created a brief survey containing three questions, which should take no more than 5 minutes to complete. We want to capture feedback from practitioners at all levels and across all services so would appreciate you taking some time to provide your answers using the link below.

The Children's Society Prevention Programme are excited to announce the launch of their first youth voice report.

They have spoken to 324 children and young people during consultations across England and Wales, including at the annual Young Carer’s Festival hosted by the YMCA and The Children’s Society.
Hearing these insights from children and young people has been a stark reminder that there is still much work needed to ensure that all children and young people get the support they need and deserve.
The Children's Society hope this report will encourage everyone, regardless of their role, to think about their own biases and assumptions and provides evidence for changes that are desperately needed.

23. Top Safety Tips for Families this February
|
The Child Accident Prevention Trust have published the following safety tips for families this February.
Help keep children safe at bath time Shocking data on child deaths exposes the risk of young children drowning at home. Findings show that in the last four years:
- One child a month drowned at home, usually in the bath
- 70% of babies who drowned in the bath were using a bath seat
It only takes a few centimetres of water, happens surprisingly quickly and there’s no noise or struggle to alert a parent who may have stepped out just for a second.
That’s why CAPT have created two brand-new posters for you to download, print and display to help families stay safe at bath time. Please click here to access them.
Please be aware that bath seats are NOT safety devices. Many parents and carers are lulled into a false sense of security that a bath seat will keep their baby safe. This is not true.
Babies have drowned in bath seats when parents mistakenly believed it was safe to step out of the room for a moment.
A baby or small child can’t be safely left alone in one even for a moment. They can easily wriggle or slip out, or the seat can tip over and immerse the baby in the water.
The only way to keep babies and small children safe in the bath is to stay with them and keep them in arms reach. Click here to access more bath time safety resources
Washing pods and capsules warning
While washing pods and capsules can make doing the laundry much easier, they can do serious damage to your child’s insides, skin and eyes if they burst them or bite into them. That’s why CAPT have created a brand-new information page explaining the risks and the simple things you can do to keep your child safe. Click here to find out more. What costs as little as £1 but could save a small child's life?
In just 15 seconds a young child can lose consciousness if they get tangled in a blind cord. They can stop breathing in 2-3 minutes. Yet something as simple as a £1 cleat hook and some strong adhesive can help to stop that happening. Please take a moment to check that any blind cords in your home have suitable safety devices. Click here to learn more FREE product safety webinars
Throughout March product safety expert Geraldine Cosh is running a number of free product safety webinars. Click here to find out more and sign up. Fire safety tips for for e-bikes, e-scooters and hoverboardsE-bikes, e-scooters and hoverboards are becoming increasingly popular. But the lithium-ion batteries they’re powered by can start fires that spread quickly and are difficult to extinguish. Fortunately, there are several ways you can reduce the risk of fire, click here to discover how.

It highlights the need to focus on the reasons why children use knives, and on interventions and strategies, such as psychological therapies and focussed deterrence, that can have a positive impact on reducing children’s involvement in violence.

Online Safety The UK Safer Internet Centre has published a report on children and young people’s exposure to online scams. Findings show: 79% of children are coming across scams online at least once a month; 27% of parents and carers say their child has been the victim of an online scam; and 26% of children who had been scammed said they blamed themselves. The report highlights the emotional impact on children and a culture of victim-blaming surrounding online scams.
