Gillian's Update

Business Support Review

We’re reviewing our admin and business support work as part of the Our Future Council Programme. This is all about looking at what we’re doing, how we’re doing it, and why we do it in our support services across the Council.

We’re going to be using technology more. Focusing on reducing duplication and variation. And to be consistently looking for new ways to do things.
It’s an important workstream that brings new opportunities to shape what our future looks like, and to design things so that they work better for both our staff and our service users. Getting this work right will play a big part in setting us up for success.

Our Street Scene and Transport Services teams are going to be the first to work with the project team to share ideas and to co-design solutions to improve how we work. Thank you to everyone who’ll be supporting this project – we’ll keep you updated on how it’s going throughout the rest of this year.

Organisational Change

It continues to be a period of significant change across the Council. We’re continuing with the recruitment process for a number of roles in our Senior Leadership Team, which we should be able to provide more detail on shortly.

There are also some big changes in the Legal, Governance and Regulatory Service that I lead. We’re currently recruiting to two new Senior Manager roles, for Regulatory Services and for Life Events (Coroners, Bereavement and Registrars Services). And we’re advertising two more roles for Legal and Emergency Planning and Democracy and Elections alongside a restructure in the Electoral Services Team.

Elsewhere the Communities and Healthy and Sustainable Communities Teams have transferred from Public Health into our Strategy and Communications Service. These changes include functions like Community Safety, the Healthy and Sustainable Communities programme, and Area Working and Cohesion, which will continue to play a key role in helping to deliver our priorities.

Care Quality Commission Assessment

Thanks to everyone who has supported the visit from the CQC this week. The whole assessment of our Adult Social Care services has been a very long process.

So a huge well done to everybody who has been involved in working, especially over the last five months since the assessment was announced, to showcase the care that we provide to everyone who relies on us.

YOUR Workplace

Putting Customers First

We want to provide great customer service. For everyone. Every time.

Customers need to be able to reach us easily, in the way that works best for them. And to get quality advice when they do.

Our new Customer Experience Strategy sets out how we'll do this. And why we need to keep working hard to deliver the very best service we can.

YOUR Colleagues

Litter Heroes

Volunteers from the Regeneration and Housing Growth team have been litter picking in Fitzwilliam.

In just two hours, they filled 40 bags with rubbish.

Not only helping to improve the environment but also gaining the appreciation of local residents.

A job well done!

Mental Health First Aiders

We all experience stress sometimes.

But if it's prolonged, it can lead to illnesses such as heart disease and strokes.

If you're feeling overwhelmed, our Mental Health First AIders can help you find the support you need.

They're specially trained to listen without judgement.  And they can direct you to appropriate help.

External Sharing

Microsoft Teams is now available to use with external colleagues and partners.

Giving you the ability to collaborate on shared documents, participate in team discussions and much more.

Pension Enrolment

We're legally required to provide a workplace pension for all eligible employees.

If you qualify, but are not already in one of our schemes, we'll be contacting you shortly about automatic enrolment.

YOUR Feature

Easter Food Donations

For Christians, Lent is more than just giving something up you enjoy. It's also about aiding those in need.

The Christian Fellowship is currently appealing for help to support local foodbanks.

If you're able to contribute, you can find collection points in the kitchen areas of Wakefield One. Or donate to one of the many foodbanks in the district.

YOUR Event

A Taste of the Continent

Our popular Continental Street Market returns to Pontefract this weekend.

It features over 25 traders offering a range of mouth-watering international cuisine.

Including artisan cheeses, French pastries and Asian street food. With handcrafted gifts on sale as well.

Come and tempt your tastebuds!
