SUMMER 2024

Dear $show_clientname,

As the warmer weather starts to make an appearance, we are excited to share with you the latest updates, information and news from London Biggin Hill Airport.

From renewed partnerships to an independent economic study, this edition brings you the highlights of our community initiatives and explores the positive impact of our airport.

New Economic Report showcases London Biggin Hill Airport's bright future

In May, we unveiled an exciting independent study, conducted by Lichfields, which showcases the significant economic value of the airport and highlights our potential to make an even greater contribution in the future.

The findings show that London Biggin Hill Airport generated £200 million GVA for the UK economy and supported 2,692 full-time equivalent (FTE) jobs in 2023. They also show that 88 FTE jobs are supported and £6.47 million GVA is generated for every 1,000 air traffic movements.

As we look forward, London Biggin Hill Airport stands poised at the threshold of an exciting future; working hard to shape the future of aviation and drive economic success for generations to come.

London Biggin Hill Airport extends support of Bromley FC's Women & Girls' Strategy

We're delighted to announce that we’ve extended our support of Bromley FC's Women & Girls’ Provision by committing to a further year as lead partner.

Having started working together in 2023, our collaboration will continue to build on the fantastic work that has led to phenomenal growth in the women and girls’ game, including a doubling of weekly female sessions and a 200% increase in females playing recreational football at Bromley FC’s home, Hayes Lane.

We hope our synergy and continued partnership will help create many more opportunities for Bromley’s women and girls of every age and background, both on the pitch and in the world of aerospace and engineering.

Our CEO, David Winstanley, attends Bromley Buzz networking meeting with local business leaders

On 11th June, we were delighted to attend, get involved and meet brilliant new friends at the Bromley Buzz networking meeting. Held monthly at locations across the borough, these fantastic events provide a platform for local businesses to connect and share insights with one another.

Our CEO, David Winstanley, delivered an inspiring talk that showcased the airport’s history of innovation and how it continues in that vein to drive inward investment, facilitating the creation of jobs, opportunities and economic growth.

We are always pleased to visit associations, organisations and forums to share more about what we do at London Biggin Hill and discuss our ambitions as we strive to be the best neighbour we can be.

Commemorating D-Day 80

The 6th June 2024 marked the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings. On Wednesday 5th June, we were honoured to host D-Day veteran, Cecil Newton, as he travelled with family to take part in the D-Day commemorations in Normandy.

Cecil, aged 100 years, was a loader/wireless operator aboard a swimming Sherman tank that landed on Gold Beach at 07:15 on 6th June 1944. At the time, he was just 20 years old and served with the 4th/7 Royal Dragoon guards.

We pause, reflect and honour all those who bravely fought on the shores and in the skies, and made the immense sacrifice to fight for our freedom.

Blue Light Community Day @ The Lookout Coffee Shop

More than 300 local people took part in workshops and met representatives from across our emergency services at our final event of Health & Safety Week - Blue Light Day. There were several highlights including a retro police car, police dog demonstrations and our airport fire and rescue vehicles to name a few!

Special thanks to London Fire Brigade, Metropolitan Police Service, London Retired Police Dogs Trust and our airport colleagues for their generous support; it was great to see so many people engaging with our local emergency services!

Sunrise Challenge 2024

Congratulations to everyone who participated in our Sunrise Challenge on Saturday! The sold-out event saw over 260 runners and 100 cyclists take on the 5K run or 15K cycle along our historic runway.

It was an early start for our charity challenge, all to raise money for our chosen charity, RAF Benevolent Fund (RAFBF), whose work supports members of the Royal Air Force family by providing practical, emotional, and financial support whenever they need it.

Thank you to everyone involved in making the Sunrise Challenge happen on Saturday – your hard work and determination raised an incredible £7,000 for the RAFBF. A special shout-out to The Biggin Hill Shed, especially Eric, for handcrafting the participant medals out of wood. We look forward to the next one!
