To celebrate International Day of the Air Traffic Controller, we caught up with Emelia, one of our Trainee Air Traffic Control Officers, for an insight into her role.
In the video, Emelia shares what inspired her to pursue a career in ATC, discusses the most rewarding part of her job and provides advice to those considering the profession.
International Day of the Air Traffic Controller provides an opportunity to celebrate the incredible professionals who work behind the scenes to ensure our skies are safe.
Thanks to Emelia for providing this fantastic insight, and our whole air traffic team for their continued dedication and hard work in our tower and beyond!

Runway Resurfacing Project - Batching Plant Installation
|
As part of our commitment to maintaining world-class infrastructure, we will be resurfacing our runway during the spring/summer of 2025. This project is necessary due to the standard wear and tear experienced over its years of use.
In preparation for this work, a temporary batching plant is being installed at the airport to create the runway material. Once built, the plant will reduce the need for heavy goods vehicles to travel to and from the airport, and any disruption this might cause, as the resurfacing material can be made on site.
Work to install the plant has begun and is expected to be completed this month. During the winter, the batching plant and materials will be tested to ensure they are ready for the resurfacing works in 2025.
At this stage, exact dates are to be confirmed but we expect to begin the resurfacing in March 2025 and aim to be finished by August 2025. The resurfacing works will take place outside of airport operating hours, overnight Monday to Friday.
This is proactive work to remove the top layer of the runway and relay it with new material – a like-for-like replacement – ensuring our runway remains fit for purpose.

The Above & Beyond Bromley Business Awards 2024

|
We were delighted to support this year's Above & Beyond Bromley Business Awards (The ABBBAs) – an event that celebrates the vibrant entrepreneurial spirit in the London Borough of Bromley.
The awards culminated in a spectacular evening of celebration, attended by over 300 representatives from local businesses, to hear who had won each of the thirteen categories - which included Best Startup, Best Environmental / Sustainable and Community Hero.
Our CEO, David Winstanley, presented the awards for Best Creative, Growth or Innovation (Churchill Theatre Bromley) and Best Independent Business (Southside Property Management Services Limited), whilst our Head of Public Affairs & Community Engagement, Matthew Amer, presented all winners with champagne from local supplier, Squerryes.
Congratulations to all the nominees, finalists and winners on their achievements, and to the team at Life In Magazines for organising such a magnificent event!

We’re proud to sponsor our local Christmas lights again this year. The switch-on event, which included performances from local school choirs, took place on 23rd November at the New Life Church in Biggin Hill.
Our mascot, Captain Merlin, was delighted to be this year’s special guest and share the festive magic by switching on the lights for our local community. He was thrilled to spread some extra cheer by handing out goodies and dancing along to some Christmas classics too.
