Welcome to our Q2 Partnerships Newsletter
I am delighted to welcome you to our latest Business Partnership Newsletter.

It is always a source of great pride when I think about all the work our partners do with us. We have recently celebrated a number of our wonderful partners on our newly installed partnership wall in our Atrium. This is a real conversation piece for people coming into the college. If you haven’t got your name on it yet, there is still time. Please speak to our Partnerships Team about how we can support you with this.

Our apprenticeship delivery goes from strength to strength, and it is great to see some new apprenticeship standards being launched this September. These have been developed in direct response to feedback from our employer partners about where they think there are gaps in the apprenticeship offer available to them. If any of these are of interest to you, please speak to our Apprenticeship Team who will be very happy to help you.

Finally, a big thank you to those of you who have agreed to sponsor one of our REACH awards, where we will celebrate the wonderful achievements of our students and apprentices. If you are keen to sponsor an award and join us on the evening, please get in touch with the team and we can talk you through the options we have available.

Many thanks for the work you do with us. If there is anything you need from us that we don’t already do, please let us know.

Principal and Chief Executive

NEW APPRENTICESHIPS FOR 2025!

As part of York College & University Centre’s ongoing development of our apprenticeship offer, we are excited to announce that we will be delivering the following new apprenticeship standards from September 2025...
Adult Care Worker L2 Apprenticeship

Adult Care Workers are the frontline staff who help adults with care and support needs to achieve their personal goals and live as independently and safely as possible, enabling them to have control and choice in their lives.

To work in care is to make a positive difference to someone’s life when they are faced with physical, practical, social, emotional or intellectual challenges.
Adult Care Workers need to have the right values and behaviours, developing competences and skills to provide high quality compassionate care and support. They are the frontline staff who help adults with care and support needs to achieve their personal goals and live as independently and safely as possible, enabling them to have control and choice in their lives which is at the heart of person centred care. Job roles are varied and determined by and relevant to the type of the service being provided and the person supported. Adult Care Workers may work in residential or nursing homes, domiciliary care, day centres, a person’s own home or some clinical healthcare settings.

Personal Assistants do the same job as an Adult Care Worker and work directly for one individual usually within their own home. Working with people, feeling passionate about supporting and enabling them to live a more independent and fulfilling life is a rewarding and worthwhile job that provides excellent career opportunities.
Senior Healthcare Support Worker L3 Apprenticeship

A Senior Healthcare Support Worker will provide clinical, therapeutic or diagnostic care under the direct or indirect supervision of a registered healthcare professional.

We are offering the Adult Nursing Support Pathway:
The apprentice will be providing care and support for adults as part of a nursing team.
Some of the individuals the Adult Nursing Support Worker cares for will have short-term needs for example, if they have a wound which requires dressing. Others may have long-term conditions which affect them every day, all their lives.

Many individuals will have more than one condition, and some will need round the clock care for all their personal needs including feeding, washing, going to the toilet as well as for their clinical needs.
Multi-Channel Marketer L3 Apprenticeship

A Multi-Channel Marketer will support customer focussed marketing activities that drive the demand for a product or service.

They will be responsible for delivering day-to-day marketing activities across a multitude of platforms, channels and systems that are essential to the Marketing function and activities of the company.
Cultural Learning and Participation Officer L3 Standard

Cultural Learning and Participation Officers (CLPO) plan, organise and co-ordinate artistic and cultural education workshops, schedules of activity and community engagement projects that will vary in duration.

The activities that are planned, organised and co-ordinated by the CLPO, typically include teaching arts, culture and heritage subjects, creative workshops, visits, talks, performances, festivals, events and digital arts, using online content and social networks as appropriate.
We have more opportunities to follow later in the year, so please keep an eye out for further announcements on the Apprenticeships section of our website!

York College & YMF Car Part Motor Trades Event 2025

In early May we invited students in Years 9 – 13, and parents and carers to our York College and YMF Motor Trades Event 2025.

This event, held in association with the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI), was the perfect chance for students who have an interest in the motor industry to learn more about emerging local and global employment opportunities.

There were talks from the IMI and York College on Motor Vehicle opportunities and progression routes. Plus, students had the chance to meet over 45 motor vehicle specialists and dealerships, and view our state-of-the-art Motor Vehicle workshops.
Students left with a full knowledge of how the motor industry is developing, to help with their future career choices.
If you missed the event, but would like to speak to our Apprenticeship Team about taking on a motor vehicle apprentice, please email apprenticeships@yorkcollege.ac.uk.

'Super Trowel North England' Regional Competition Hosted by York College

Last month our brickwork team proudly hosted the Super Trowel North England Regional Competition.

The competition was aimed at bricklayers working in industry, to come and showcase their skills. The focus for this competition was all about speed and how many bricks can be laid and jointed within the hour.

In earlier heats some individuals had put down more than 650 bricks within the time allocated. The winner and runners up won a place in the grand final in Coventry in August, with an eventual prize of a trip to Las Vegas to compete in the SpecMix 500 competition.
A Big Thank You to Our Pathways Employers

Have you heard of the Yorkshire Accord Coaching and Mentoring scheme?

Do you have staff who would like to be coached or could provide coaching through the Yorkshire Accord Coaching and Mentoring scheme. We have had dozens of staff who have benefitted from external coaching through this scheme; it is a fabulous opportunity to support their growth and development personally and professionally.

What is coaching?

Coaching provides a really supportive and safe space to have conversations that support you to achieve whatever it is that you want to achieve, get better at or even to just get your head round things.

People use coaching to discuss all kinds of things – to build confidence and address feelings of imposter syndrome, to work out how best to complete a specific project or implement something new; to work out how to improve relationships; or even to work out career aspirations. The range of topics is endless and it all depends on what you want to discuss – you get to decide. There are so many benefits of coaching and the feedback is excellent.

Through the Yorkshire Accord Coaching and Mentoring scheme, your staff who are interested in coaching could also become trained to Level 3 standard.

For further information please email schemeleader@yorkshireaccord.co.uk, or if you'd like to speak to our development manager about how it has helped York College staff, please contact sdevlin@yorkcollege.ac.uk.
