Help Commissioner shape policing in Surrey in the coming years

Surrey's Police and Crime Commissioner is calling for residents to help shape policing in the county in the coming years.

Lisa Townsend has launched a survey for her Police and Crime Plan, the blueprint for Surrey Police's priorities between 2025 and 2028.

Lisa said: “Representing Surrey residents is the single most important part of my role. I answer to you, and it is my job to represent your views on policing in Surrey.

“That is why I now ask for your help to create my Police and Crime Plan.

"The consultation takes just a few minutes to fill in, so please do take a look.”

The consultation will close on December 12 2024.

Have your say at roadshow's return

The Policing Your Community events have returned this autumn - with stops already taking place in Guildford, Reigate and Banstead and Spelthorne.

Commissioner Lisa Townsend, Chief Constable Tim De Meyer and Borough Commander Blaine Rafferty joined residents at Merrist Wood College in Worplesdon on September 23.

On October 7, the Commissioner and the Chief Constable visited Banstead Community Centre with Borough Commander Jon Vale, and on October 14, the team hosted a meeting at Spelthorne Borough Council offices with Borough Commander Matt Walton.

So far, questions have been asked on a range of topics, including police visibility, anti-social behaviour and burglary.
The audience also learned more about the Force's achievements, including the seizure of drugs worth almost £1million in Redhill, a campaign to tackle anti-social behaviour in Guildford, and a series of successful property closures in Spelthorne.

All are welcome to attend the events and have their say.

Yule never guess who's already thinking about the festive season!
No Claus for alarm, but Christmas is just weeks away - and Surrey Commissioner Lisa Townsend is looking for a talented young illustrator to design her festive card.

Lisa and her Deputy, Ellie Vesey-Thompson, are calling for children aged up to 11 to submit their designs.

The winner will receive a family ticket to Bocketts Farm.

Two runners up will also be given 12 cards with their designs on.

This year’s theme is ‘the spirit of Christmas’, and entries must be drawn or painted on A4 paper.

The closing date for the competition is Monday, November 4.
Walton blooms thanks to new fund

A community garden in Walton-on-Thames is back in bloom thanks to funding secured by the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner.

Lisa Townsend has officially reopened the Walton Community Garden at the St John's Estate after the town benefitted from the Home Office’s Safer Streets Fund.

Lisa said: “It was a real joy to join the celebrations at the community garden."

Celebration of key frontline policing role

Lisa Townsend has celebrated a "diverse and challenging" frontline policing role - and encouraged others to apply.

The Commissioner visited Godalming during the summer to join Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) Nick Boxall on patrol in the town.

PCSOs are among the most visible roles in Surrey Police, and the intelligence they gather allows the Force to build a picture of where the county’s crime hotspots lie.

Their work also helps to identify and protect Surrey’s most vulnerable residents.

The Force launched a recruitment drive for additional PCSOs earlier this year, with a new cohort taking to the streets last month.

Lisa said: “This is a diverse and challenging role that we know makes a real difference to our communities.

"You might find our community support officers guarding a cordon after a major incident, finding a way to calm down an angry member of the public who is threatening harm, or supporting a vulnerable resident who is struggling with their mental health – sometimes all within a single shift.

“It is a job like no other for those who love Surrey.”

New grant for 'angels'

The Commissioner has approved new funding for Guildford's Community Angels.

Lisa Townsend has approved a £2,000 grant from her Community Safety Fund for the Guildford Town Centre Chaplaincy.

Volunteers befriend vulnerable adults facing loneliness and isolation in the town and help clients access any additional support they may need from other agencies in Surrey and further afield.

Lisa has also approved funding of £1,200 for the Elmbridge Youth Awards.

The awards, organised by Surrey Police Youth Engagement Officers working in the area, celebrate young people who go above and beyond to show their courage, kindness and compassion to others.
