Last chance to have your say on police funding

It’s the last chance to have your say on whether you’d be prepared to pay a little extra to support our policing teams in Surrey over the next year.

Police and Crime Commissioner Lisa Townsend is inviting residents to fill in a brief survey on whether they would be willing to pay a little over £1 extra a month on an average council tax bill for 2025/26.

The survey only takes two minutes to fill in, but you need to be quick – it closes at midnight this Sunday (February 2).

You can find the link to the survey HERE.

Surrey Police is one of the fastest improving forces in the country with an additional 3,500 offences being prosecuted and 2,500 more arrests made over the last year.

But to sustain this momentum and provide crucial support to victims of crime in Surrey, the Commissioner says Surrey Police desperately need funding to avoid having to make any cuts to services.

Lisa said: “We are seeing a return to ‘back-to-basics’ policing in Surrey with a focus on what our teams do best – fighting crime in our local communities, getting tough on offenders and protecting people.

“The charge rate has doubled and huge strides have been made in tackling those crimes important to you such as burglary, shoplifting and violence against women and girls.

“But Surrey Police needs your help to sustain this progress. That is why I’m asking for just two minutes of your time to let me know what you think in my survey.

“We have had a fantastic response so far and I want to thank all those who have already given me their views.

"There is still time if you haven’t had a chance yet to fill it in yet but you need to be quick – it will close this Sunday night.”
