Welcome from Dr Lyndsey Williams
Dear all

Since November 2024, NHS North West London has been asking residents to share their views on proposed improvements to adult community specialist palliative care services. These proposals are part of a commitment to provide compassionate, high-quality support for people facing serious or life-limiting illnesses.

The consultation focuses on:
  • Creating a community specialist palliative care service that ensures equal access to quality care—whether at home, in the community, or at a hospice
  • Ensuring that every adult in north west London has access to specialised, round-the-clock care and support when they are at their most vulnerable.

Thank you to everyone who has already contributed at events or meetings, or by completing the questionnaire. Talking about palliative and end of live care can be challenging, but it’s really important that we capture a wide range of thoughts, ideas and experiences so that we can help make improvements in the care and services provided.

We will be working closely with partners and community groups to raise awareness into the New Year, with the consultation closing on 24 February 2025. Please share this newsletter within your own networks too.

I look forward to seeing you at our events and meetings soon.

Best wishes

Dr Lyndsey Williams

Your initial feedback
Proposed improvements to adult community specialist palliative care services across north west London have been broadly welcomed by residents in the early stages of public consultation.

Many people have said they agree with plans to introduce enhanced end-of-life care beds to address gaps in care, but some concerns have been raised over travel accessibility, workforce shortages and the potential permanent closure of Pembridge Palliative Care Centre inpatient beds, which are located in the St Charles Health and Wellbeing Centre in North Kensington. There were also calls for culturally sensitive care to meet the needs of residents in our communities.

A more in-depth summary of the key discussion points is available to be read.

You can view recordings and read summaries of the main feedback provided (see far right-hand column in the table towards the end of the page).
Borough involvement sessions
More than 30 involvement sessions have been held so far at community locations across North West London, with residents able to hear more about the plans, speak to members of staff and receive hard copies of key consultation documents.

Further in-person sessions are planned, with information published on our website

Our team may also be able to attend your own meeting or group to share more about the plans. Please contact us by emailing nhsnwl.endoflife@nhs.net
