Welcome

Welcome to our community update. This is NHS North West London's newsletter for local community and voluntary groups.

We would encourage you to help us by sharing the relevant content in your community newsletters and email updates aimed at your members and residents. You may also use this wording in social media posts. Images and some campaign materials in different languages are available on our resources page.

Public statement on racism and hate speech from NHS North West London

North West London is a rich and diverse area with a wide range of different cultures and communities, all of which contribute to making this a great place to live and work. We condemn in the strongest terms antisemitism, Islamophobia and all other forms of racism and hate speech. Such attitudes have no place in the NHS.

We are working with our staff and all our providers to ensure there is a zero tolerance approach to racism and hate speech across North West London.

Consultation launched on acute mental health services in Westminster and Kensington and Chelsea

Residents of Westminster and Kensington and Chelsea are being asked for their views on the future shape of services in their boroughs for adults aged 18 to 65 with acute mental health needs. A public consultation has launched and will conclude at the end of January 2024.

The consultation will look at getting the right balance between community-based provision and inpatient beds in the two boroughs. NHS North West London and Central and North West London Foundation NHS Trust (CNWL) have worked with service users, clinical experts, the Met Police, local voluntary sector bodies and local residents to develop options for future provision.

We have set out our preferred option. Read about it here and tell us your views.

Update on community-based specialist palliative care

North West London residents are being asked to register their interest in attending an online webinar where we will be looking at future potential service options for delivery of the new model of care for adult (18+) community-based specialist palliative care.

The proposed new model of care has been co-designed over the last year by a working group of NW London residents, along with clinicians, NHS providers and charitable hospices with the ultimate goal of making sure there is improved access to high quality services.

Details of the potential service delivery options will be published before the webinars so that attendees have the chance to look at and consider them before the meeting commences.

The webinars are being held at a borough or North West London level so there is plenty of choice as to the event you can attend.

Are you a patient whose experience has led you to develop a new idea to help others? Do you want to learn new skills to help scale this up?

The NHS Clinical Entrepreneur Programme (CEP) is offering a 12-month pilot programme for people who have experience of a long-term health condition and are working on an idea to improve the care of others.

Professor Tony Young, OBE, Clinical Director for Innovation at NHS England, says: “At the NHS Clinical Entrepreneur Programme (CEP), we are committed to placing patients at the centre of our work. We believe that transforming healthcare is a collective effort, and we are excited to announce the launch of the Patient Entrepreneur Programme this November. This programme offers patients and carers who have developed healthcare innovations or projects the opportunity to join the CEP and scale their ideas for the benefit of all.”

The programme starts in March 2024.
