Supporting our community: NHS update for the 8th Anniversary of the Grenfell Tower fire

As we approach the 8th Anniversary of the Grenfell Tower fire on Saturday 14 June 2025, NHS North West London and Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust, together with our partners in hospitals, general practice, emotional wellbeing services and community care, reaffirm our commitment to supporting survivors, bereaved families and the wider community.

We recognise that this is a deeply difficult time for many. We want to reassure residents that NHS services remain available for everyone whose health and wellbeing continues to be affected. Looking ahead, we remain focused on providing high-quality, accessible services, shaped by the experiences of the community and delivered in close partnership with them.

This edition of our newsletter includes updates on the latest health and wellbeing services, financial reporting on the North Kensington Recovery Programme and community engagement activities. It also includes a new leaflet outlining current support available and information about how NHS North West London staff will mark the anniversary, at their all staff meeting the following Monday.

We have heard concerns about the possible health impacts of the government’s planned deconstruction of the Grenfell Tower. This will not begin until after the anniversary and is expected to take around two years. We will continue working with the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government and the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea to ensure robust support and monitoring is in place. The NHS will remain flexible and ready to adapt its services should any additional health needs arise.

Grenfell Tower fire survivors offered Personal Health Assessments

Survivors who escaped after 1:28 am on the day of the fire, and may have been exposed to increased levels of smoke, are being offered Personal Health Assessments (PHAs). These assessments which are based on clinical advice, are available through a NHS Offer from St Charles Centre for Health and Wellbeing, or from a private healthcare provider.

Out of 116 PHA service-eligible survivors, 96 are adults and 20 are children.  For children, there is a specialist and comprehensive annual health check provided at St Mary’s Hospital in a clinical setting that is more child-friendly. The NHS Dedicated Service has contacted to all PHA Service-eligible adults through various communication methods including, email, letter and telephone, as well as ensuring multilingual support.

Currently, the NHS Dedicated Service has spoken to 77 adults and are still trying to reach around the remaining survivors who escaped after 1.28 am and continue to try to contact them.

There have been 59 bookings for PHAs, with 44 assessments completed to date. The remainder are currently considering whether to have the assessment and seven people have decided they do not want to have one.

This initiative aims to ensure the health and well-being of Grenfell Tower fire survivors by providing necessary support and care.
