Pharmacy opening times over the Christmas period

We have now published the final rota for pharmacy opening times over the Christmas and New Year period.

Please remind patients to order and collect their prescriptions for over the festive period, as Bank Holidays can affect the opening hours of local pharmacies.

The full list of opening times have been published on our website.

CT Pancreas

All acute trusts in NW London will be accepting referrals for CT pancreas with contrast from 13 December 2023 for patients where the level of clinical suspicion reach the NG-12 criteria. This forms part of an extension of GP direct access in line with national guidance.

This is in addition to the existing GP direct access ultrasound or UGI Urgent Suspected Cancer referral pathway for patients aged 40 and over 40 with jaundice.

This is available through the ICE order comms interface on the main page. If your request does not fulfil the NG12 criteria for CT pancreas it will be rejected. Where the clinical decision support (CDS) tool is available please use the referral criteria to present your request. Where CDS is not available please refer to the NG12 criteria for pancreatic cancer in ICE.

Referral criteria:

In people aged 60 and over with weight loss and any of the following:
  • diarrhoea
  • back pain
  • abdominal pain
  • nausea
  • vomiting
  • constipation
  • new onset diabetes. [2015]
You should request this as an urgent investigation in ICE and provide information regarding eGFR within the last 3 months.

You can expect this CT to be performed within 8 days and reported within 3 days from the CT.

Report actions remain the responsibility of the referring doctor, including onward referral under 2WW pathway for radiologically confirmed cancers. The reports will give clear advice regarding recommendations for onward referral.

For any clinical questions or information from the Trust you have referred to please contact the local Trust as below:
We will monitor the impact of this change through the NWL Imaging network. If you have any general feedback on this new pathway, please contact us in the imaging network nhsnwl.nwlradiologynetwork@nhs.net

Providing COVID Vaccinations for the at risk 6 month to 4 year old cohort

•  The confirmation that the COVID vaccination programme can continue beyond 15th December in order to improve uptake has provided an opportunity to undertake additional work to improve uptake amongst the vulnerable 6 month to 4 year old cohort.

• The pathway for vaccinating these group is laid out below:

Identification

• Practices should undertake local searches within their GP IT systems to search for 6-month- to 4-year-olds in a clinical risk group and draw up a list of those who are eligible using the Green Book definitions

• Practices can also access the newly improved GP COVID-19 Dashboard to search for under 5s at risk.

Invitation

• Once a patient has been identified, Practices should contact the parent via letter or text message including the booking link to book an appointment Online Appointment Healthcare Platform | Swiftqueue

• This is the priority group for vaccination and should be contacted immediately

Vaccination

• Parent attends pre-arranged appointment at CP House with vaccination activity recorded and reported back to GP clinical system through POC system.

Annual GP immunisation campaign information

FAO: practice colleagues who work on immunisation programmes – including Borough primary care leads, practice managers, GP clinical imms leads, practice nurses

The details of the 23/24 GP annual immunisation campaign have been published. The information about the annual campaign, how to organise it and the requirements for practices can be found here

You may have already received the link and have started working on plans to deliver this.

The 23/24 campaign activities fit into two pieces of work, both of which support the national drive for MMR catchup and specifically the London Phase 2 MMR/polio catchup campaign.

This is at a time when we know that MMR vaccination uptake is low in certain populations and there is a risk of sustained measles outbreaks.

The campaign is two-fold and is in addition to any call/recall previously undertaken. Practices can use the current MMR toolkit which practices may find helpful when planning their campaign (an updated version will follow shortly).

From November 2023 to March 2024 – practices will be required to undertake local call and recall for eligible individuals aged 12 months up to and including 5 years.

The webpage gives information on the detail of the call/recall process for the campaign

Attached is a document developed from the Jitsuvax training, that healthcare professionals may choose to use to guide them when having conversations with parents about missed vaccinations.

Primary care leads will work with practices to gather information on completion of the campaign

· From January 2024 to March 2024 – practices are asked to support requests for vaccination from individuals aged 6 years up to and including 25 years. This cohort will be identified through phased national call and recall, and where individuals or parents/carers contact their practice following receipt of the invitation, practices are required to check the individual’s vaccination status for valid vaccinations (e.g., given at the correct age and at the correct intervals) and book an appointment for vaccination if clinically appropriate. Further information will follow, via the Primary Care Bulletin and Regional cascade, to provide advanced notice of the phased national call and recall, including the schedule of call and recall communications. This catch-up will be supported by the School Age Immunisation Service (SAIS) for the relevant age cohorts, alongside general practice activity.

The final details of the national MMR call/recall for 6 years to 25 years will be shared with regions in the next couple of weeks and then we can cascade it out to providers and stakeholders

ICB primary care leads will work with practices to gather information on completion of the campaign

If you have any questions about the annual vaccination campaign activities, please do contact either your local imms co-ordinator, your ICB primary care lead or the imms regional inbox

Free quality improvement project

Be part of a free quality improvement project bringing benefit to your practice, revalidation and patient safety.

Detect VTE is a quality improvement project designed to support early identification of suspected VTE.

1 in 20 people will suffer a venous thromboembolism (VTE) in their lifetime, and it is a leading cause of death and disability, which is often preventable.

Studies of patients who die unexpectedly of pulmonary embolism reveal that 40% had been seen by a physician in the weeks prior to their death with ‘vague symptoms.’

The objectives:

· To identify common patterns in pathways leading up to diagnosis of a VTE by patients and clinicians.

· Identify those which support early suspicion and diagnosis of VTE as well as those which may challenge or impede diagnosis.

· Identify solutions that will add value to clinical decision making and have a positive impact for patients experiencing a VTE.

Benefits to the practice:

· Participation in this opportunity if being offered FREE of charge. Each participating practise will receive a full report sharing data and learning gained during the QI programme undertaken in their practice which can be submitted as part of their GP and CQC revalidation work.

· The QI learning through audit is fully funded by Thrombosis UK.

· The work will be supported by CQC approved clinical solutions team and clinical researchers.

· No costs and minimum work burden for the practice staff.

· As an outcome of this programme, if a clinical solutions tool to aid early identification of VTE is developed, participating practices will be invited to trial this, free of charge. The end goal being to make this available free of charge to NHS providers.
