New council homes for south Bristol

Dundry View, a 6-storey residential building containing 53 affordable apartments has been built at Hengrove Park, south Bristol. It’s the latest project to complete in our new council homes development programme.

27 of the Dundry View apartments are council homes for social rent and are allocated through our HomeChoice register. The other 26 apartments are for Shared Ownership, an affordable route to home ownership where residents can progressively buy larger percentage shares of their new home.

New High-Rise Living Group

We’ve set up a High-Rise Living Group for residents living in high-rise homes. It’s for them to share ideas and work together with our housing teams to improve our services and building safety measures.

If you’re a resident who lives in a high-rise building, this new group is a dedicated space for you to:
  • share experiences of living in a high-rise home
  • raise issues and concerns that matter to you
  • help shape how housing services for high-rise living are designed and delivered
Your lived experience is vital to shaping how our high-rise living services are designed and delivered.

There's still time to get involved. Contact the Resident Engagement team at resident.engagement@bristol.gov.uk or call 0117 352 14444.

Sun shines for resident's get together

Residents at Mawdeley House, one of our supported housing schemes for older people in Bedminster, organised a get together and enjoyed an afternoon tea on the terrace in balmy May sunshine.

Homemade by the residents, they savoured sandwiches, sausage rolls, quiche, cupcakes and jam tarts.

Those with a passion for gardening, go out of their way to keep the outside spot looking its best. Steve who has lived at Mawdeley House for several years has even hand made wooden planters for the terrace. Blooming marvellous!

Thank you to Claire, mobile warden for bringing residents together, making sure they had everything they needed and doing lots of fetching and carrying in very hot weather!

If your neighbours and local community are holding social events this summer email your photos to housing.news@bristol.gov.uk. We’ll include the best ones in the next edition of Housing News.

BBQ safety advice

When the sun is shining having a barbeque (BBQ) can be great way to enjoy being outdoors with friends and family. About *75% of UK households own at least one BBQ, making it a very popular activity indeed! However, they can easily become dangerous.

Follow Avon Fire and Rescue’s BBQ safety advice.

Please make sure you:
  • have your BBQ in your garden/outside and away from your home
  • never have a BBQ indoors or on a balcony
  • place your BBQ on a flat, solid surface and a safe distance from anything that could catch fire
  • have a bucket of water nearby to put out the BBQ out quickly it gets out of control
