What’s happening next?

You may have noticed that construction work on the block has slowed down. This is because we have now appointed an architect consultancy firm to prepare plans and designs for the next phase of the project.  

Once the plans are completed and agreed, we must submit them to the National Building Safety Regulator for approval to start works. 

We will keep you updated throughout this process. 

Pest Control are on site and are working to manage the issue.   

Leaving waste on the scaffolding is also a fire hazard. Please help reduce the rodent issue and support the safety of your homes by disposing of rubbish correctly and not leaving food waste on the scaffolding, around the building or in the surrounding area. 

We will continue to monitor this situation and take action where needed.

Scaffolding – safety reminder

As you may be aware on Monday 9 August, Avon and Somerset Police and Avon Fire and Rescue Services attended an incident at John Cozens in St Jude’s. Officers were deployed to the scene, and the suspect was sighted by officers on scaffolding outside his property. He then fell from height and was taken to hospital. 

We understand that this incident may be upsetting for you or your family. 

It is incredibly important that you continue to be vigilant and ensure that you and your family do not climb onto the scaffolding or remove any parts.   

If you see anyone on the scaffolding, damaging the fencing, or entering restricted areas please phone the police immediately and report the matter urgently to the contractor’s compound office opposite Tyndall House.

If you live in Haviland House, John Couzens House, Langton or Charleton your balcony has been locked off for health and safety reasons. Thank you to those who have continued to not use the balcony and have handed in their keys.  

Your balconies need to remain locked while the scaffolding is in place and must not be used for any purpose (including storage). We will let you know when you will be able to use your balcony again, we apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your patience while we work to improve your homes.  

You should have recently received a letter asking that you keep the corridors clear. This is to keep communal spaces free from fire hazards, or items that could block emergency escape routes. 

Please make sure the only item outside your front door is an anti-slip doormat.  

Any other items left in corridors and communal spaces will be removed. If your items have been removed, please contact buildingsafety@bristol.gov.uk  

Upcoming work – Bristol Heat Network 

Work to install the Bristol Heat Network will begin in the area this September. 

The project will provide sustainable, reliable and fairly priced heating and hot water to homes, businesses and public buildings through a network of underground insulated pipes. 

Vattenfall are due begin trail works on Pennywell Road, Eugene Street and Little George Street from Tuesday 1 September. To complete these works each road will need to close for between three to seven days. Only one closure will be in place at a time and signed diversion routes available. 

There will also be further temporary road closures from late September.
