Welcome to the spring edition of our Legacy Loop newsletter!

With vaccines continuing to be rolled out nationwide, and with the weather improving, 2021 is certainly looking up. Following the recent government announcement regarding the roadmap out of lockdown, we remain hopeful that a return to “normal” is drawing ever closer and the re-opening of retail shops and fundraising events will soon be able to resume.
The extension to the furlough scheme and the Stamp Duty Land Tax holiday are also welcome news and will hopefully allow businesses and charities the chance to start to get back on their feet.

In this edition, we look at the recent Legacy Foresight briefing report on their Charitable Wills in the 21st Century project, led by a consortium of 30 leading charities. The project highlights a number of significant key lessons within the wider sector.

Our new webpage provides information on leaving legacies to charities in their wills (and the financial incentives they could benefit from by doing so), as well as introducing our dedicated team of private client charity solicitors.

We also review a recent charitable will case that is a good reminder of the importance of clearly identifying charity beneficiaries in wills to avoid disputes later down the line.

Finally, we set out our tips for practical steps you can take if you are faced with an executor who is unwilling to progress an estate administration.

So as things appear to be on the up as we push on into 2021, we hope the landscape continues to improve for all legacy teams.

Best wishes
Andrew
