Combine your stay with a visit to the popular Westmorland Show
The award-winning Westmorland Show - as seen on TV

The popular Westmorland Show takes place over two days on Wednesday 11th and Thursday 12th September, drawing crowds of tens of thousands from across the Northwest and further afield.

It's Cumbria's largest agricultural show, having taken place for 225 years, and is always a great couple of days out. Punch Bowl favourite and TV chef, Phil Vickery, will be heading up the demos in the Food Theatre on Thursday 12th supported by a host of local Cumbrian food stars. Plus restaurant critic, Tom Parker Bowles will be leading the culinary discussions on Wednesday 11th.

The Westmorland Show recently featured on the first episode of the new Channel 5 docu-series, 'Cumbria: The Lakes & The Coast', which you can currently watch again on catch up if you want a taste of what to expect.

There's also still time to pick up some discounted early-bird tickets on the Westmorland Show website.

Food glorious food
We just ❤️ The Lake District's autumn larder

Autumn in the Lake District and on owner, Richard's, farm, throws up some real gems that we're always excited to showcase on our menus.

As well as autumn starting to bring us some great game dishes, it's the homegrown veg accompaniments that really stand out such as kale, carrots, Jerusalem Artichokes, and that good old staple - the potato.

It's also of course peak damson season where the snow white blooms that we saw bursting onto the Lyth Valley roadsides and orchards around the Punch Bowl earlier this year, have produced lots of round, juicy, plummy fruits ripe for picking.

Our regular guests and diners will know how much we love to feature damsons on the Punch Bowl menus. It's always special to follow their journey from plant to plate when they get to star in our crumbles, purees, and sorbets. Damsons also make the perfect partner for pork and game dishes... and not forgetting damson gin - another local speciality around these parts!

Punch Bowl Blog

We update our blog on a regular basis, so you can keep up to date with all the news, views, and 'who's who' at your favourite inn & restaurant until your next visit (hopefully soon!)

Carrying on the food theme (and why not?!), the Punch Bowl team has been well & truly spoiled with chocolate gifts from lovely guests this summer. (Thank you John & Paul). We've also had some mouth-wateringly delicious cakes on our Sunday 'cake rota' with the latest being Maria's special Eastern European Dessert of waffles and caramelised sweet condensed milk. Trust us, every workplace should have a cake rota!

As always, we would love to feature your photographs & stories from visits to the Punch Bowl or the surrounding area, and you can submit them via the email address below.
