- South and Vale's Economic Development team
South and Vale organisations can now apply for up to £50,000 in funding under our UKSPF E22 intervention: Enterprise Infrastructure & Employment / Innovation business support.

Funding is available for an organisation to set up and deliver an enterprise support programme that will unlock enterprise skills within the districts, reduce social isolation and improve employment opportunities in areas of deprivation.

The programme will offer a range of specialist support, including expert advice and guidance, which helps residents to consider self-employment opportunities and provides them with a route to start or grow a business. This should include sole traders providing services to the local area, social enterprises and co-ops that benefit the local community, and opportunities for individuals to develop enterprise skills in areas of deprivation that could lead to self-employment.

A focus of this procurement is to create purposeful businesses, including social enterprises and co-ops, that provide a benefit to communities in areas of multiple deprivation.

The application window is open until 5pm on Tuesday 27 August 2024. Apply via the South East Business Portal.
Skills England to transform opportunities and drive growth

Between 2017 and 2022, skills shortages in England doubled to more than half a million, and now account for 36% of job vacancies.

To help, the Government has announced the launch of Skills England, a national ambition to boost the nation’s skills by bringing together central and local government, businesses, training providers and unions.

The scheme will be established in phases over the next 9 to 12 months and will support local areas to develop the skilled workforces they need, particularly within the construction and healthcare sectors.

Full details can be found on the Government's website.
Nominations for Oxford Climate Awards deadline approaches

The climate awards, run by Oxford Mail, are open until 11 August for nominations.

The awards aim to honour exemplary efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, protect natural ecosystems and promote sustainable practices.

Awards include the Innovation in Climate Action award, sponsored by Climate Action Oxfordshire. This recognises the work of individuals, businesses, or community groups that are innovating and exploring new technology and approaches to tackling the climate emergency.

Check out the 12 award categories and apply via the Oxford Mail website.
Free energy app for Oxfordshire residents

Energy Saver App is a new, free mobile app from Oxfordshire County Council.

The technology analyses your smart meter data and understands your energy use. It then gives you highly personalised insights that your smart meter can’t, so you can make informed choices about your energy use and efficiency.

The app contains personalised, actionable tips, efficiency upgrade predictions, monitors trends, tracks CO2 reductions, pinpoints power-hungry appliances and more.

If you’re interested in using the Energy Saver App to reduce the amount of energy you use, visit the Energy Saver App website.
Cover your apprenticeship training costs

Did you know there is financial support available to Oxfordshire businesses to take on an apprentice?

As part of the OxLEP Skills ‘Grow Your Own’ apprenticeship levy pledge initiative, there is currently £1.8m available to cover your apprenticeship training costs. This is open to any business looking to take on an apprentice.

Additionally, OxLEP Skills has recently facilitated a pledge for £100,000 from the BBC from its apprenticeship levy fund, which will allow people who want to work in the creative and
digital industries to earn whilst they learn. SMEs across
Oxfordshire can now apply for the funds to recruit apprentices and upskill current employees.

Further details can be found via OxLEP's website.
