Welcome to the latest edition of the SVBS newsletter.

This week, we're focusing on Tap Social Movement, who have been awarded the Consumer Facing Social Enterprise of the Year at the 2024 UK Social Enterprise Awards. Big congratulations!

Plus, organisations can now submit an event they're hosting, or one they know of and think we should shout about, via our Google form. We will feature these on our Visit Southern Oxfordshire website, and via our Facebook and Instagram pages.

We're also highlighting finding a premises for your business (with two council-owned properties currently available to rent), free places on Green Skills courses at Abingdon & Witney College, the Community Catalysts Enterprise Project, Oxford Women in Life Sciences: December Social, the next BIPC Startup Huddle networking event and an OIEP summit on why the early years are so important for a thriving economy.

Botley based Tap Social Movement has been awarded the Consumer Facing Social Enterprise of the Year at the 2024 UK Social Enterprise Awards.

Tap Social Movement is an independent social enterprise, craft brewery and hospitality organisation, located in the Vale of White Horse district.

The organisation provides training and employment opportunities for prisoners and prison leavers, and believes that
everyone benefits when no one is excluded from the job market.

To date, Tap Social Movement has created more than 85,000 hours of paid, meaningful employment for leavers. It runs four Oxfordshire community venues, including Proof Social Bakehouse, named by The Telegraph Food as one of the 13 best bakeries in Britain.

There's lots going on in South and Vale throughout the festive season, and we've already begun to collate a list of events taking place from January onwards.

If your organisation is hosting an event this Christmas or in 2025, or you know of an event that we should shout about, submit an event listing for free via our Google form.

We will then feature these on our Visit Southern Oxfordshire website and share details via our social media channels.

Go green and improve your premises

Are you a homeowner planning an extension, have you recently moved into an eco-friendly new build, or are you looking to upgrade your home or business premises to reduce your carbon footprint?

We've teamed up with Abingdon & Witney college to offer free places on a variety of Green Skills courses to local businesses and residents, equipping you with the knowledge and skills you need to transform your building into a sustainable and energy efficient space.

Funded by UKSPF, these flexible courses offer practical insights into the benefits of greener technology and living.

Get involved in the Community Catalysts Enterprise Project

Community Catalysts is a social enterprise and Community Interest Company working across the UK to help local people deliver sustainable social care, health support and other services, creating local jobs and volunteering opportunities.

Covering the Vale of White Horse area, the new Community Enterprise Project aims to work with local people who want to develop small enterprises.

You might want to offer support in your community for older or disabled people, like an inclusive yoga class or
painting sessions, or you might offer help at home, such as cleaning, cooking, and helping to wash and dress.

Some of the key benefits of joining the free programme are:
  • specialist advice and support in the care and support sector
  • promoting your services
  • signposting and introductions to local services
  • 1:1 mentoring.

Oxford Women in Life Sciences: December Social

Come and mingle with fellow women in the life sciences field at a casual, informing networking event.

BIPC: Startup Huddle - networking event

Come along to the Startup Huddle networking event at the Oxfordshire Business and Intellectual Property Centre (BIPC), designed to help one entrepreneur at a time while strengthening the local Oxfordshire ecosystem.

The session is designed for entrepreneurs to discover solutions to the challenges they face, through purposeful engagement with an array of voices from the Oxfordshire community.

Early Years: why they matter and what we can do

Join the Oxfordshire Inclusive Economy Partnership (OIEP) to discover why the early years are so important for a thriving economy.
