Welcome

Welcome to my last newsletter of 2020. I hope you are all still staying well, and coping with a different way of working and studying.

As usual, my newsletter is to keep you updated with what's going on in our sector, and my products and services.
Updates in our sector

The review of post-16 qualifications at level 3 and below in England: second stage consultation closes at 11:45pm on 15 January 2021. It seeks views on proposals for the groups of qualifications that would continue to be funded alongside A levels and T Levels. You can find out more here.

The College Commission's final report sets out a cry for radical and decisive action - enabling colleges to be part of a more joined-up, all-age education and skills system, which enables individuals ultimately to have greater opportunities across their lifetime. You can see the latest information here.

The latest information regarding observations for the Education and Training qualifications can be found here. Assessor and quality assurance qualifications can be found here. This information is being regularly updated.

The Department for Education is assembling a new team of legislators to implement education secretary Gavin Williamson’s “ambitious vision” for reform in the upcoming FE white paper. You can find out more here.

Jisc launched a three-year digital plan to provide digital services aimed at improving FE's ability to serve people as lifelong learners. You can find out more here.

The Skills Toolkit from the Government offers free courses to help you learn new skills or to get a new job. You can find out more here. For example: practical maths; computer essentials; digital design and marketing; computer science and coding.

A major expansion of post-18 education and training will take place in the new year to level up and prepare workers for a post-COVID economy. The Lifetime Skills Guarantee will enable adults without an A-Level or equivalent qualification to be offered a free, fully-funded college course. You can find out more here.

The Society for Education and Training (SET) currently has a survey to find out what's important to professionals in our sector (ends 11th December). You don't have to be a member to take part. You can complete the survey here.

I always post any relevant updates as they occur, on my Twitter feed - you can follow me here.

Resources - 10% off discount code

Until January 5th, you can use the code Ten10 at my online shop checkout as many times as you wish for 10% off.

Resources are available for the teaching & training, assessment and quality assurance qualifications.

The code is not applicable for books or online courses.

New '50' book

The third book in the '50' series: 50 Quality Improvement and Quality Assurance Approaches: Simple, easy and effective ways to improve performance is now available for pre-order and will be published in the new year. It contains lots of ideas of how to put theory into practice.

Free competition

To be in with a chance to win these three text books, just go to this page and complete the entry form.

The competition ends on 31st December. T & Cs apply.

Gift vouchers

I now offer gift vouchers!

They are ideal if you are looking to buy a present for someone, perhaps if they are working towards a qualification and need some information, or if you need resource materials to teach and assess a course.

They can be purchased in multiples of £5. See details here.

PDF versions of my books - beware!

People often tell me that they have seen adverts for free PDF versions of my books available to download online. I have checked them out and they are not free - nor are they my books. They are just sites trying to obtain your data so please don't get caught out.

The only way to get an electronic version of my book is from a reputable website such as Amazon, or direct from the publisher

If you do happen to find a copy available for free download, please let me know as it will be in breach of copyright and data protection.

Don't forget...

There's lots of information on my website to support new teachers, trainers, assessors and quality assurers with their role.

If you don't already know, I have created teaching and learning resources which range from 50p for handouts to £10 PowerPoints.

You can sign up to an online course for your CPD for only £18, or take the Award in Education and Training, or Assessment qualifications online. These are a collaboration with KMF Training and Consultancy.

There are lots of videos, reading lists and blogs to access via my site (by me and others) to help you with your role.

And finally ... as always ...
