Welcome

As usual, my newsletter is to keep you updated with what's going on in our sector, as well as with my products and services.

Updates in our sector

Ofsted inspections - there is a rolling update of guidance and information relating to coronavirus for further education and skills providers here.

You can access it here, and you can see the ETFs response here.

T levels - Ofsted will carry out a survey to report on the implementation of T levels and the T-level transition programme in their first two years of operation. You can see details here.

Support for practitioners during Covid

I always post any relevant updates as they occur, on my Twitter feed - you can follow me here.

Upgrading your qualifications

I am often asked how an assessor who gained D32/33 or A1/A2, or an IQA/EQA who gained D34/D35 or V1/V2 can evidence that they are demonstrating their knowledge and practice towards the content of the current qualifications. Often, awarding organisations require to see proof of this.

I've created a page of information on my website to help anyone who may need to do this as part of their job role, or who just wish to do it for their CPD as evidence of good practice.

Principles and Practices of Assessment: new edition

I have been busy working on a fourth edition of this popular book which is due to be published in April. It is already available for pre-order.

All chapters have been fully updated and the book also contains new content on:
  • the assessor coach role
  • end-point assessment
  • the role of technology in assessment and quality assurance
  • online assessment
  • theories, principles and models of reflection and evaluation.

Competition winner

Details of the winner of these three books, and the answers to the questions can be found on this page.

There will be more competitions in the future so do keep an eye out for my newsletters.

Assessment materials and assignments

If you are a centre offering the AET, CET, DET and/or Assessor and IQA qualifications, I have created assessment materials and assignments which can be purchased from £5.

They are ideal if you don't have the time to create your own, and to help with the standardisation of assessor practice.

Each is cross referenced to the assessment criteria, and they are available in Word if you wish to amend them or add your logo.

Some of the assignments have exemplar answers and others have observation checklists.

You can see what is available here. Please note, assessment materials will not be sold to learners, they will only be sold to approved centres. All purchasers will be checked.

Amendments to the ITT, assessment and QA qualifications

The qualifications had been extended for registration until July this year. However, as far as I am aware, there are no plans for any amendments to the content of the qualifications in the short term. However, they will likely be reviewed in 2023/24.

This is information which I have received from the ETF, therefore awarding organisations will be putting in place measures to extend the registration period again.

You can find details regarding the Covid mitigations for observations and teaching practice on the ETF website for: the ITT qualifications (AET/CET/DET) and assessment and quality assurance units.

Please note - the ETF are in the process of upgrading their website and these links might change.

Don't forget...

There's lots of information on my website to support new teachers, trainers, assessors and quality assurers with their role.

If you don't already know, I have created teaching and learning resources which range from 50p for handouts to £10 PowerPoints.

You can sign now up to an online course for your CPD for only £18, or take the Award in Education and Training, or Assessment qualifications online. These are a collaboration with KMF Training and Consultancy.

There are lots of videos, reading lists and blogs to access via my website (by me and others) to help you with your role.

And finally ... as always ...
